They say that for everything that happens in our lives, we are responsible for ourselves, and we are to blame for it too. Like, what choice have made one day – with that and live. In my life I also made a wrong choice when I decided to tie my fate to a man who was not serious. I was so in love with Frank when I was young that, knowing he was a lover of women’s skirts, I was sure that for my sake he would be the best family man. So I wanted to believe and hope. But the fact is, the man is what he is. And yes, even after the birth of my son Paul did not change his behavior.
Every month I found out more and more about his adventures. I was told by neighbors, acquaintances, and even by my own relatives. I was both ashamed and offended, all together. I endured for five years, and then I gave up. We divorced. The good thing was that my hubby wasn’t greedy. He left me his house with a promise that I wouldn’t file for alimony. My son and I didn’t want to live there: I rented out my husband’s house and we went to my mother’s, especially since she needed care. That’s how we lived.
I spent the money from rent on my son, on clothes, on school, on all sorts of excursions and fun. I tried to give my son a decent childhood. I spent the money I earned on utilities, food, and medicine for my mother, who was bedridden for many years because of her illness. I thought my son appreciated my taking care of him. Now I am 57 years old, I have diabetes, I get insulin shots all the time, fighting for my life as best I can.
I can’t work anywhere because of my illness, and who will take a sick person to work at such an age? I also do not have a pension, because I was constantly changing jobs and did not stay anywhere for long. I mostly worked unofficially to earn as much as possible. In short, I live on the money I get from renting out my apartment. My son is 31 years old, he recently decided to get married and gave me an ultimatum to move out, because he and his wife were going to live in the apartment. To the words that I would not have anything to live for, my son replied that it was my problem.
Like, all my life I have lived in chocolate, having two houses, I could set aside money for my old age. I really don’t know what to do. I have no savings, I need medicine all the time, I have to eat something, and I have to pay for utilities. What am I supposed to do? How can my own son do this to me? And why would he do this to me?
