My mom has two of us, me and my sister, who is a year older. Relationships are not particularly good, all because lately my sister thinks I’m jealous of her. But the fact is that I did not start all this mess.
And it all started because my sister and her husband started some fancy repairs, and I was immediately confronted with the fact that I am not expected to visit with my children. Why? Because they think my kids will paint their walls and break something. I take it they were based on their children’s experience. All right, what can I say? Of course, I don’t feel good about it. But since they think so, so be it.
We communicated as usual. From time to time we would meet for a walk in the park or go to small restaurants. They weren’t embarrassed by my kids there, and neither were they.
They had already finished their renovations and all of a sudden they invited us over for a visit. I immediately knew that I would not go there. And why? First my kids were accused of something they had never even done, and now they’re waiting with open arms. No, I’m good, thanks.
Our mom went to the housewarming party with her new boyfriend. It’s worth saying that our mother successfully washed her hands of helping us. As soon as we both got married, she immediately said we were now on our own bread and our own care. She raised us, gave us an education, helped us with our housing, and now she has her own personal life. That’s why we never bothered her to help us babysit our grandchildren or anything else. Mom became persona non grata.
It just so happened that my husband and I were divorced. I was left alone with two children. Yes, my sister used to help me out a lot. She could sit with me if I needed to do something urgently.
And then in the middle of the night the phone rang. Sara called, crying. Notified me that she was pregnant, well, that her husband left, filed for divorce. It is clear that she wanted advice. But what could I advise? Her choice was to keep the baby or not. But she decided to keep it, even though our mother said there was no need to bother herself.
So the bottom line. My beloved sister decided for me that it would be great for us all to live together – that is, me with my two children and her pregnant with her two in a two-bedroom apartment. Amazingly, when everything was going well – she didn’t need me or my kids. As soon as her husband left, she needed me.
I’m sorry that Sarah is going through what I and my mom are going through. But how can I help? If I can, I will. But I don’t intend to live together, even though she now resents me.
