My husband said that he would divorce me in two years. So how do I digest this information?

When I turned 41, my husband told me things that I didn’t immediately come to grips with and didn’t immediately realize the gist of his information. This act I consider to be the ultimate betrayal. I couldn’t imagine that my husband would ever be capable of something like that.

I was sure we had a strong and close-knit family. I thought we’d all live together happily ever after. But I was wrong.

We met, got married, had children, raised them, worked hard. My spouse was always quiet, taciturn and hardworking. Sometimes we quarreled, but not more often than others. Never fought much or split up.

My spouse told me about his “wonderful” news the day after my oldest son’s birthday. The husband chose to talk on an evening when the kids stayed the weekend at their grandparents’ house. My husband decided to take unprecedented care and gave me time to mentally and financially prepare.

This time was due to the fact that my eldest son was just about to go to college and study in the capital, and soon the youngest would join him.

I was shocked by this announcement. I think if he came and said: “Ira, we have to get a divorce!” it wouldn’t have hurt so much. My husband showed a callous and cold calculation. Why did we have to create the appearance of marriage all this time? My sons are grown up now, they started bringing girls over. They’re not little kids anymore.

Maybe this is some kind of favor for me. To keep me married for a while longer? So I don’t burn with embarrassment as a divorcee? Should I make a calendar on the wallpaper and cross out every day? I’ve been betrayed, and I don’t intend to pretend to be a happy family. What’s the point?

I don’t need those two years they gave me. I’ve decided to file for divorce myself. Who does he think he is? Of all my friends was the only one who seemed very noble act of my husband. Everyone else thinks it’s a complete nonsense. After all, I am a human being, I have emotions and feelings. I am very uncomfortable and hurt. Maybe he can have his two years!
