Of course, I know that a lot of people are very cautious about real estate. And it’s quite understandable. After all, apartments are very expensive, and not everyone is lucky enough to inherit an apartment.
– How lucky you are! – My friends tell me. – Your husband is wonderful, your daughter is a smart girl, your apartment is so big! Why don’t you have a second child? You have a two-bedroom apartment, don’t you? My husband probably wants another son!
I don’t tell anyone anything. I don’t tell them how things really are. It’s true: I have a wonderful husband and a beautiful daughter. But I’m not having another child.
The thing is, the apartment where David and I live doesn’t belong to David, it belongs to his mother. It’s exactly the same situation with Robert and his wife’s apartment. Robert is my husband David’s younger brother.
Both David’s and Robert’s apartments belong to my mother-in-law. I don’t want to have a second child because I’m afraid that if anything happens to David, I’ll end up on the street with two children. My mother-in-law lives in a one-room apartment, and she was able to get her two two-room apartments by various means. David and I have been married for seven years. But my mother-in-law isn’t going to rewrite her apartment to David.
We live in my mother-in-law’s parents’ apartment. Robert, on the other hand, got the apartment in a very different way. My mother-in-law inherited a one-room apartment from her uncle. Then she saved up money and sold the one-room apartment. Then she bought a two-bedroom apartment in which she let Robert and his wife live.
But my mother-in-law is very afraid that we will claim her sons’ apartments in case of divorce, so she does not rewrite the apartments to our husbands. My mother-in-law doesn’t believe in our marriages. But that’s not the only reason. My mother-in-law has been married twice and her sons are from different husbands. But my mother-in-law raised her sons by herself.
My mother-in-law’s first husband, David’s father, wanted her parents to sell their two-bedroom apartment and buy two apartments, one for themselves and one for my mother-in-law and her husband. And her mother-in-law accidentally overheard that he was going to divorce her right after that. After that, the mother-in-law kicked her husband out and divorced him. Of course, David’s father did not pay any alimony on him.
And the mother-in-law’s second husband, Robert’s father, didn’t try to take the apartment from her. But he didn’t want to get his own place either. In all four years of living together with my mother-in-law, he only worked for six months. Of course, he didn’t pay child support for Robert either.
And my mother-in-law worked hard and was able to raise two sons on her own. My mother-in-law doesn’t want their fathers to get apartments if anything happens to her sons.
– I will write a will for my grandchildren! – My mother-in-law promises.
But so far she hasn’t done that.
– What happens if you have more grandchildren? – I asked my mother-in-law once.
And she told me:
– Well, they have parents, that is you! You will have to provide them with housing! The most important thing is that none of my apartments go to any of my husbands! – my mother-in-law told me.
