My daughter is very susceptible to other people’s opinions. When someone gets new shoes, she also urgently needs those shoes. There’s no getting around it with her hair, either. At a recent parent-teacher conference, my Alice pointed out the smartest girl in her class and her new haircut, a braid just below her earlobes. My daughter said she wanted the same haircut and as soon as possible. It was impossible to dissuade her, reminding her that princesses specifically grow their hair, that model agencies love girls with long hair, but who cares if the smartest girl in class and all the boys like because of the new haircut?
On my firm “no” my daughter still did it her own way. In the evening, before going to bed, she sneaked into the kitchen and stole the scissors. It wasn’t until the next morning that I noticed it was missing. Alice ran into the room, thinking that she had taken it for applications, but she no longer had a tail. Cut it off almost to the root… What can you do with these kids? I had to take her to the barber instead of school to fix this mess on her head.
The daughter finally got her way, now she goes with a rather short haircut, but she already regrets it. She overdid it with the length and now the other girl is loved by all, and her haircut is called “boyish”.
What interesting stories do you have with your children?
