My brother and I just don’t know what to do about our mother. After my father died, she demands that we provide for her. And she doesn’t want to go to work.

We just don’t know what we should do with our mom. After my mom gave birth to me, she never worked a single day. She said she was going to do my upbringing. In fact, I went to kindergarten, to school, and I was only taken care of by my grandmother. Five years later my mother gave birth to a boy, my brother Sasha. Since then my mother proudly called herself a housewife. Our father was a very kind and hardworking man. He made very good money and provided for us very well.

When he and Mom got married, he sold his apartment, added the money he had saved, then Mom’s mom sold the apartment, and they put all the money together and bought a big four-bedroom apartment. Grandma started living with us and helping Mom.

And at the same time my mother said:
– How could I work? After all, I have a four-room apartment, two children, a husband! And everyone needs attention! Everyone needs to be fed, washed, cleaned.

And in fact it wasn’t my mother who cooked, cleaned, ironed and washed the meals, but our grandmother. Dad had to work very hard to provide for us and pay for all our mother’s wishes. When I was thirteen years old, my grandmother died. But my mother didn’t take over the household chores. She made me do everything. When I was seventeen, I began to resent it. My mother would go for manicures, massages, to the hairdresser’s. Meanwhile, I had to do the cleaning and cooking.

My mother made a terrible scandal about it and demanded that my father hire a housekeeper. And Mom continued her usual way of life. And many times after that Dad started telling Mom that she had to get a job, that she had to earn her pension.

– Who’s going to hire me! After all, I haven’t worked anywhere for so many years! – my mother answered him.

When I decided to go to college, my mother started telling me that education was not important for a woman, that the most important thing was to find a husband who would support me. But I didn’t listen to my mother. I graduated from college and got a job. And only then I got married. I married for love. My husband and I already have a child, and we plan to become parents for the second time in a couple of years.

My brother, on the other hand, got married three years ago. Dad bought him a studio apartment, even though he was already very sick. And my mother was against it. She scolded my father for spending the money to buy the apartment.

– How will I live if you die? – Mom declared to our father.

And the fact that she was the one who ruined our daddy didn’t seem to think so. After all, my father worked all his life very hard to provide for us. It would have been much easier for him if mom had worked too. At my father’s funeral, my mother cried and said that it would be very difficult for her to live now. Even though Dad left Mom a lot of money. Of course, she could no longer afford to pay for a housekeeper. And now the apartment is a terrible mess.

Our mother is only 58 years old. She has no health problems whatsoever. The money my father left her, my mother quickly spent it, and now she demands that my brother and I provide for her. And she doesn’t want to get a job. She constantly calls me and my brother and says that we are ungrateful and have to give her money. My brother’s wife was the first one who couldn’t stand it. Alice told our mother

– Go work whatever you want! You can work as a cleaner, or you can babysit other people’s children! I’m on maternity leave with a baby, and we’re paying the mortgage on the apartment! We’re not going to help you!

As a result, my mother had a huge fight with my brother and his wife. Now she is constantly demanding help from me. My brother and I consulted and found a good solution to the problem: we wanted to sell our big apartment. Then we wanted to buy our mother a studio apartment. Part of the money my brother and I wanted to take for ourselves, and we wanted to leave the rest of the money to Mom to live on.

We are now paying my mother’s utilities: after all, she can’t pay anything: it’s very expensive. But mom doesn’t want to sell the apartment. She is constantly demanding money from us. My brother and I don’t know what to do. We’ll probably have to sell the apartment and split the money after all. And then my brother and I decided that we wouldn’t have any more contact with our mother. Let her do whatever she wants. Let her do with the money as she sees fit. My brother and I just don’t see any other way out of the situation.
