Momma elephant brings her newborn baby to meet the people who saved her life

The little elephant was born in November, and the Trust’s workers named her Nessie. For a few weeks after she was born, Nessie stayed close to her mother but when she got tired of nursing, mommy would take off for a day or two to feed herself. That left little Nessie all alone so somebody from the Trust would always be there to keep an eye on her. But one day things changed – out of nowhere young Nessie appeared at the entrance of the orphanage followed by her very own mom!

It is still unknown how long they will stay together but it is a beautiful sight seeing this family reunited under such happy circumstances.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust shared the touching reunion story on Facebook, and it has since gone viral. “It is always a joy to see her walking back into our stockades, sometimes accompanied by her wild friends,” wrote the organization.”

“Shelda’s elephant family continue to inspire us in their dedication and ongoing care for Loijuk as she integrates back into elephant society – something that would not be possible without all of your support,” they added.

After Loijuk’s departure from the orphanage, Benjamin Kyalo still keeps in touch with her and provides any support she needs. This amazing relationship is a true representation of how elephants are capable of forming strong emotional connections with the people around them.

“The calf was very weak and needed to be bottle-fed every th

ree hours, day and night. Benjamin never left her side, helping the keepers to feed her around the clock. Gradually she began to gain weight and strength under his watchful eye.”
