But they had nothing: no children, no dog, and not even a house yet. If she began to talk about the baby, her husband just guffawed, or began to talk her out of it:

They had already put it off more than once… First once, and then the second time. After the second time, when she was putting her things away, the doctor called her in and told her that she should be more responsible about her own health, because the consequences could be very unfavorable, and the third time might never come because of complications.

At the time the couple decided to adopt, Alice was thirty-seven and Alex – thirty-nine. They chose a newborn baby girl. The girl’s biological mother was still very young to bond with a child.
Alice went head over heels into motherhood. She gave the baby all her love, she breathed the baby and could not get enough of it. Her daughter was named Alina.
– You’re my little treasure, my miracle – Alice said to her daughter.
Alina grew up very spoiled child, which was quite predictable, since her mother always indulged her every whim. Her husband paid no attention to this and was busy working and earning money. When Alina went to kindergarten, the first problems began…
When Alice was picking up the little girl from kindergarten, the teacher complained that she was very badly behaved and today she spat at the nurse. Alice was so indignant at the teacher’s words, because her little angel was not capable of such a thing.
– Alice, well Alina sometimes really overreacts, we need to punish her more often – said the spouse.
– But how to punish it, it is very small? – Alice offended her husband.
After Alina went to school, problems began to grow with the little girl. Once she stole a classmate’s notebook, but her mother once again became a mountain to defend her daughter.
It got to the point where Alina changed three schools: she would fight, she would steal, she would skip classes. Once, when she was in ninth grade, she was asked where she was during classes to which she calmly replied
– Out for a walk.
She was so cold-blooded that nothing in the world seemed to be able to take her out of her equilibrium.
After finishing school, her parents were puzzled about where to send their beloved little angel to study, but the angel did things his own way: he decided it was time to get married, since he was in the pregnant state.
The young couple settled down in an apartment, which the parents bought for their beloved child in advance. Then Alina gave birth to a little girl and Alice had to actually move in with them, the daughter did not have even a hint of maternal instinct.
Alina’s husband also quickly disappeared as he appeared, and the young mother after recovering from childbirth went back to her old ways and started walking.
Any conversations with her daughter did not bring any results, she walked all day and night and not interested in her little girl. A year later Alina brought home a new suitor and said that it was her last and true love, and she would soon have a baby. Alice this news led to despair. She tried to persuade her husband to talk to her daughter, but he only powerlessly shrugged.
This time Alina was born a boy, and the second spouse disappeared from her life even earlier than the first, and a few weeks after the birth of her daughter went back to work. Alice had to carry the upbringing of her grandchildren, two apartments, and her spouse on her back.
Once she came home with her children after a walk, their mother found a piece of paper in the hallway, which said: “Mom, do not look for me, I found my love! I’ll come back for the kids later.”
When Alex came back from work, the spouses had a big fight and her husband said that he had had enough of it all, and so he packed his things and went to live in a hotel.
Alice realized that her world had crumbled overnight and there was nothing she could do or fix. There is no way out of this situation, no way at all…
