My mother had a friend when she was young. A married serious woman with three children. She was a very responsible mother, a wonderful wife with conservative views, but her husband had an accident and died, after which she changed a lot.
She inherited some inheritance, including a car, a two-room apartment, and a small business, which she did not know anything about, but sold it for good money. The need to carry the family on her own shoulders changed her.
A friend of hers had a man, and after him, when they broke up, the next one, and they supported her and helped her financially. She bragged about it to my mother, and my mother was still amazed and said that she would never be able to do that in her life.
But, as they say, you can’t take a chance…
After the divorce with my dad, she was very withdrawn, refused all men. A friend persuaded her to register on a website with foreigners, just to go to restaurants for a date. Rich people even deliberately hire an interpreter and take him with them on dates.
My mother was very reluctant to go on a double date with this friend like that, and then she started talking to foreigners herself. I somehow didn’t pay attention to this, but suddenly she announces to me that she is flying to Egypt to one of them. Her friend had flown abroad like that many times before.
I asked her if she really wanted to take such a risk in a foreign country, and it turned out that she and this man first met at our place on a date, then they met a few more times before he left, corresponded to each other until now. Now he has invited her to his place, he has already bought a ticket.
On the one hand I am glad for my mother, on the other hand I am afraid somehow. Another country, unfamiliar places, and a man… I hope it doesn’t come out sideways, and that mom knows what she’s getting into.
