I had the misfortune to marry a divorced man who was 14 years older than me, and with a child, when I was 28. But I didn’t have much of a choice. What kind of man can you find at that age, if everyone around you is either married, divorced, or has flies in his head.
My man has a son named Brian, he’s 15 years old. After we got married, Brian came to live with us. His mother, my husband’s ex-wife, found a lover and went abroad. She didn’t want to take her son with her. She said he was a problem, so she left Brian to her husband and me.
I’ve always believed that there are no problem children, only unloved ones. So did Brian, and I believed that he and I would easily find common ground. As much as I did not try.
And played games with him, and his favorite food and cooked secretly. Brian thought I was nobody, and he still does. The only authority for him was his mother, who left him.
To be honest I’m terribly tired of this kid. He always has problems at school – discipline and grades. He goes around in bad company, can be rude to adults. I feel sorry for this child, but he’s not mine, I’m not his mother. And I’m tired of wasting my nerves.
