I was invited to a birthday party by Monica, not a close friend of mine, but still, I gladly agreed. I love this kind of celebrations, and try to always look my best at them, even if I have to celebrate at home. Four hours before the event I went safely to the hairdresser, and returned home to get dressed.
With the rest of the guests we decided to get together early, come up with a greeting, and I was on my way out to see them. At that moment I got a call from the birthday girl, Monica. She pathetically asked to come over early to help with the party and chat. How could I refuse the birthday girl? I changed my route, and went straight to her.
On the doorstep I saw Monica in her bathrobe, with no makeup or hair. I exclaimed with surprise, burst into her apartment, and quickly sent her to tidy herself up. I thought she hadn’t had time to tidy herself up because she had been cooking for a long time, but in the kitchen I found that nothing was ready at all.
I decided to ask Monica if she had ordered the food in a restaurant or somewhere else. But she answered that she had decided to rest yesterday, and today she did not know what to do, so she had time to go only to the grocery store.
I realized that the cooking on me, and I do not want to let Monica down, and I do not have much choice, so I started cooking in my holiday dress. It’s good that I found an apron, or else I would have gone crazy for sure.
After an hour the girls came, I was very afraid to be in the kitchen when all the other guests were sitting in the living room and laughing. After about 40 minutes the other girls began to realize that dinner was not observed, and I wanted to eat. They began to come over and help me cut salads and appetizers and prepare the main course. Thus, it took us another hour and a half! An hour and a half we are all beautiful and in holiday dresses were stuck in the kitchen! My dress stunk for a couple more washes. And please note that there were 10 of us, including the birthday girl.
I will not remember this birthday with a happy note.
I do not understand this attitude to the guests. I was in such a situation for the first time, maybe it was normal for Monica, but she made all the guests uncomfortable.
Were you in the same situation? Or was it me who was overreacting?
