I am married. My mother-in-law is 72 years old. Helena has worked all her life as a supervisor and is therefore used to bossing around.
We lived with Ronald for two years, and my mother-in-law came to see us very rarely. But then I got pregnant and had a baby girl. My mother-in-law, who lives very close by, started coming to us every day. She helped me a lot with the baby: both with advice and things. But then my mother-in-law started to interfere in all our affairs.
For example, we found a very nice apartment with Ronald and decided to buy it. But Ronald showed it to his mother, and she wouldn’t let us buy it. She said that the apartment is just awful. Only then she let it slip that she didn’t want us to buy this apartment just because it was far away from her and she couldn’t visit us so often.
Six months later we did buy ourselves a new place to live. The house was close to my mother-in-law’s house and there was also a large plot of land near the house.
It was the way my mother-in-law wanted it. My mother-in-law made me, pregnant for the second time, plow that garden like a slave.
She even made me plant corn, zucchini, and pumpkin for some reason. We had a good harvest, but then we didn’t know where to put it all. Almost everything was gone. So I worked for nothing.
My mother-in-law comes to our house every day and always tells me what I have to do and how I have to do it. Ronald is at work all the time, and I’m at home with the kids. So I have to listen to my mother-in-law for hours.
I am a very calm and very patient person, but there is a limit to my patience. I can not forbid my mother-in-law to come to us. But how to make her interfere in our lives less and stop giving her endless advice, we just do not know.
My mother-in-law helps me a lot with my second child, too. For example, when I need to take my daughter to kindergarten or just go to the store. After all, the weather is not always good, and sometimes I can not take with my son.
My husband and I decided to make some repairs to the house. But my mother-in-law interferes here too. She says that the floors and windows, and doors can still serve and it is not necessary to change them. But we think differently.
Recently she and I had a big fight about this. My mother-in-law got angry and said she would never come to see us again. But she was only good for four days. And on the fifth day she came to us again and started giving us advice on what and how to do.
I don’t know how to behave with my mother-in-law now. I don’t want to hurt her at all, but I am so sick of her constantly interfering in our lives.
So how do I stop it all?
