– I missed you. Are you happy without me?

When I was at university, I dated a lot of girls. I wasn’t lacking in looks, which made a lot of people pay attention to me, regardless of the fact that I was from a poor family. I didn’t care about girls’ wealth and parents either, which is probably why I met Julia. She was a girl from the village who, by some miracle, managed to get into a good university on a budget. Everything was going well with us, our relationship was serious, and I chalked it up to her fears that she didn’t want to live together. She was afraid, as long as we were not married.

Guided by the idea that all girls want to get married, I decided to talk to Julia about it, to find out if she wanted to marry me or not. I’ll tell you right away – she laughed at my question, as she laughed at me.

– Are you kidding? I didn’t come to town to get married at twenty and babysit. I need someone with money, so I don’t have to go back to the country. What about you? Your college degree doesn’t matter as long as you’re not working and can’t afford us a better dinner than fast food takeout!

That was the final point in our relationship. She left me while I wanted to marry her.

It’s been about eleven years since we broke up. The earth is big but round, and I was “lucky” to run into Julia at a beauty salon. My wife signed me up for an expensive salon and the hairdresser was Julia. She immediately recognized me, but for a while held a cold, pretending that we do not know each other. Only when her colleagues dispersed who to lunch, who in the office for procedures, she began to ask how I did, who I work, who my wife.

She was interested in everything, and I did not care how her life was going. She’s working, and that’s fine.

– If you go to this salon, you must be rich,” he smirked. – You suffered so much, proving that you love me, and then you got married. I missed you, and you’re happy without me, I see.
– Very happy,” I added with a strained smile.

What else did she expect to hear or see? That I was still killing myself over some pretty selfish girl? That’s something you always have to get over, get over, and get over. There’s no such thing as Romeo and Juliet or eternal teenage love in real life. When it comes to marriage, it’s much more important to find someone who is understanding and good than just good-looking.

I left there and asked my wife to sign me up elsewhere, because I didn’t like the master – he talked a lot out of order. I hope not to see Julia again. I prefer to leave all my exes in the past.
