My daughter got married a long time ago. Since our town has nothing to catch young and promising, they moved to another town right after the wedding. They settled there and took out a mortgage.
After my granddaughter was born, I moved in with them. I was lonely, and my daughter needed help. She could not stay on maternity leave for long, because the loan had to be paid off. I became a free nanny. I literally raised my granddaughter. At first my daughter worked remotely, and then she realized that I could handle everything and moved to an office.
I was literally knocked down from exhaustion. I cooked, cleaned, babysat for the little girl. My granddaughter was very active – I couldn’t even sit for a minute.
The granddaughter had some health problems. She had to be fed from a spoon, cooked a special meal and a certain list of medical manipulations.
I was angry at my daughter and son-in-law, because they had completely abdicated their parental responsibilities. They took everything on me and relaxed. I could not even go to the cottage, as there was not a single free day.
When I found out that my daughter was pregnant again, I was furious. I freaked out and went home. Another second child to blame on me? That’s an outrage!
Now the young parents are coping with everything on their own. My daughter was on maternity leave. Of course they resent me, but I don’t care. Apparently I shouldn’t have rushed over to help, I should have taught them to be independent right away.
