My husband and I decided to take a summer vacation and left the dog with my mom. When we got back, we found out she had turned the animal in to a shelter. I was barely able to get my pet back, and I haven’t had any contact with my mom since.
I got married five years ago. We have no children, as we planned to close the mortgage and enjoy our free life to the fullest. We don’t race horses and solve all problems quietly. We have a great relationship because we respect each other.
If my mother-in-law took our idea to wait with the children, but my mother scandals every time. She believes that a family without children – it’s not a family. Like, then the sense was to get married if you do not need a child. My mom has been nagging all these five years, she can’t get used to our decision. She even suggested that we move in with her, forget about the mortgage, and have a grandchild. We turned her down.
When we got a dog, my mother was heartbroken. She thought the shaggy monster was a carrier of infections and was useless. I did not even try to change her mind – there was no point. The parent even decided that we were not having a baby because of the dog. But where is the connection?
– I wish you would have adopted a child, not a dog from a flea-ridden shelter,” she wailed.
In time, Mom came to terms with it. She even seemed to fall in love with the pet. That’s why we decided to leave Chuckie with her while we were away. Especially since we had no money for a luxurious vacation, we wanted to go to Baikal for a few days.
Mom gladly agreed to look after the pet, so I did not expect such surprises from her. I told her in detail how to take care of the dog and we left.
When we got home, the dog was gone. We assumed her mother had taken her for a walk. But there were no plates or food. I started calling my mother. She kept denying it for a long time, and then she admitted that she gave the dog to the shelter.
– What had I done wrong? Maybe, at least, you will finally give birth to a child,” she commented on her deed.
The volunteers at the shelter did not want to give the dog back because my mom told them we were bad at taking care of an animal. My husband took it and told the truth, because there was no other way out. We even showed them the tickets and receipts for food and vet services. Anyway, they got into our position and gave Chuckie back to us, but warned us that they would be visiting us.
My mom and I haven’t spoken since. I can’t forgive her for what she did.
