We have a pretty big and nice village. Far from poor people live in it. Almost all the residents work on the local flourishing farm, so no one is poor. I am a teacher by education, so I got a job in a kindergarten as a teacher.
I knew my husband’s family for a long time, as they are from the neighboring village. There was only one school in the area, so that’s where we crossed paths with him. Everything very ordinary and banal: we started dating, then got married. After that we moved to my in-laws for permanent residence.
They gave us a huge bedroom, located on the second floor. You could say that everything was separate. The village council allocated us land so we could build a house. For the time of construction, you had to get along with your spouse’s family, adjust to them.
For comfort we decided to buy some new furniture in our room, and after moving to a new home with them. Well, such were his plans for us.
So my husband and I go to the area to look for a sofa, table, nightstands, and the like. Fancied us a white furniture set. I’ve already imagined how it will look beautiful, blended with the walls and floors. My husband did not mind – he did not care, he let me choose.
Unfortunately, everything was very expensive – we can’t afford it at the moment. So we decided to wait until payday so we would not have to borrow or take loans from anyone.
During this week I was literally flying on the wings in anticipation of buying. And now, the long-awaited salary in hand and tomorrow we are going to rent a truck from the farm for the selected furniture.
In the morning, my partner calls me and tells me that she is very sick and that I am the only one who can cover for her. I stay for the second shift. Given the fact that the car is ordered and the husband remembers exactly the furniture he chose, then he goes to get it without me.
I came home all happy, waiting for a miracle, because my husband and his parents should have been back and arrange everything. I opened the door, almost fainted. Set that, but the color is not! I wanted exactly the white color and all ears muttered to my husband about it! And what is this? A brown set? My indignation had no limits.
As it turned out, the mother of the spouse decided to go with him and monitor the process of purchase. There, he showed her my choice, but she thought it was uninteresting and impractical. I have no idea what other arguments she gave him, only my husband gave in to his entreaties and took what she pointed out.
I was hysterical. I took a shovel in a fit of rage and resentment and started digging in the garden. I did it until sundown. At the same time I cried. I almost dug up the whole garden.
My husband and his family were surprised by this reaction. His father seriously scolded his mother for interfering in the life of his son and his family. He even scolded his son for not listening to me and giving in to his mother’s entreaties.
We decided that the furniture that we bought would stay in their house and my in-laws would give us the money for it. After we moved into the new house, we would buy what I wanted.
A couple of years later, the house was finished and we moved in with new white furniture. My father-in-law even gave us a washing machine as an incentive, so that I wouldn’t be offended.
