Hero dog dies while protecting his owner and canine friends from bear attack

Hero puppy dies protecting his owner and canine friends from a bear attack. The little dog we’re going to talk about today is quite the hero. He was 12 years old when he was adopted by a loving family, but he only spent a couple of months with them, just enough to offer his life and save them from a bear attack. The love they gave him was worth it all!

Don’t stop reading this story, although it is very sad, it will touch your heart in a way you never imagined before. Before becoming a hero dog, Pete had no family and was already 12 years old. 18 months before the event that blinded his life forever, he was adopted along with other puppies by a family that taught him what true love is. The attack came in 2018, but after a couple of years, his legacy lives on. It all started when Cathi and Steve adopted the English settee breed dog, together they shared a year and six months of companionship and incredible adventures.

The couple runs the pet sitting service Me & Shadow Pets in which they also offer their services as dog walkers. It was on one of the walks that the misfortune occurred that separated them from their beloved four-legged friend. Cathi and Steve often take their clients for walks in the woods and parks to run around and enjoy nature. The day Pete died, Steve went out with him to Greenwood Lake in New York. There they encountered a black bear from the woods, initially unaware that the wild animal was behind them because it was raining.

However, the hero dog was very clever and when he saw that the bear might attack, he decided to block its path so that his guardian and his companions could run away. Obviously, Steve wanted to help his friend when the opportunity arose, but he was already injured, the bear had attacked him for getting in its way.

“Pete took a step, I got up and held the bear at bay until I could get the other dogs to safety. Once I was sure of that, I went back and scared the bear away, but Pete was badly injured,” the guardian recounts.

The owner of the puppy, who had just established himself as a hero, sought immediate help in an attempt to save his life. However, his age and the severity of his injuries made care difficult, so there was no choice but to let him go for good.

“We decided it was best to let him go that afternoon. You will no longer have all those aches and pains of old age, you had 18 wonderful months with us spending your days as you loved. I love you Pete, save me some cheese for when we meet again,” the canine’s parents posted on their networks.

Thus we end this narrative, with our hearts wrinkled by the departure to the rainbow of this brave little dog, but proud of his actions. Fly high, dear hero, you will always be remembered!
