On a frosty evening through high snow drifts, being nine months pregnant, she ran to the store. Her drunken husband wanted to top off the degree and ordered his wife to go buy beer. Like any woman, she dreamed that he would change, and this was all a temporary hardship. And it’s not hard for her (nine months pregnant!!!) to do something for the sake of her beloved husband. Yes, yes, that’s how they are, Russian women – always want to save men, who would be better off rotting alone than infecting the lives of others with their rottenness. Twenty-four hours later, I was born. I appeared unusual – there was some strange bruise on my face, near my eye and cheek, the doctors said that they would monitor it – as long as there was nothing wrong.
A year later they decided to do an operation, because the bruise was growing and it was necessary to remove all the dead tissue. We got rid of the bruise, but the scar remained huge. In the nineties, there was no technology yet to remove scars. And the main thing was to keep my health; my appearance wasn’t particularly important.
I remember, all my life I was constantly teased because of that scar. They called me all sorts of names, and some kids just scowled at me. When I came home, my mother and grandfather always consoled me, saying that I was just special and that I shouldn’t pay attention to fools. And then there was the teenage years, I fell in love with a boy – in the evenings he walked me home, carried my backpack.
One day we arranged to meet him, but he didn’t show up. Later he showed up with a boy who was hitting on my friend. I asked him why he didn’t show up.
-Have you even seen yourself in the mirror, you fool?! How could I love someone like you?! – He laughed in my face, and I cried and ran home.
At home I kept crying, lying on my mother’s lap, while she and my grandfather calmed me down. In the morning our grandfather, a neighbor, came to our house and brought us money. As it turned out, he had put it together for my surgery to remove my scar. Such kind people can be!
The operation was successful. Now I’m almost forty, I’m a child psychologist. I realized my dream – to save children.
