I am 35 years old. I am married. I have a mother. My mother is 54 years old. I also have a grandmother, Grandma Maria. She is 83 years old. My grandmother, despite her advanced age, lives alone. And all because she categorically refuses to move in with my mother.
And so my grandmother has become very bored lately, and she has found herself a very peculiar entertainment. She constantly calls me and my mother and complains that she feels very bad. When my mother and I visit her, she immediately gets better.
My mother and I are already very tired of it. But we’re afraid not to come to grandmother: what if this time she really feels bad. Maybe Grandma doesn’t get enough communication and attention. That’s why she calls me and my mom, and says she feels very bad. The first time it happened, my mom and I went to Grandma’s house in our nightgowns at five o’clock on a Saturday morning. And Grandma’s blood pressure was just a little high. Half an hour later, she already wanted to go to the kitchen to give us tea.
We wanted to examine grandma at the hospital, but she adamantly refused to go to the hospital. So we brought the doctor home. He examined her and said that there was nothing wrong with Grandma’s health, considering her age. He advised us to just visit her more often.
But we visit Grandma often anyway. We live far away from each other, so neither my mother nor I can visit her every day after work. But on weekends, either my mother or I come to visit my grandmother. And when there are holidays, we always come to her, both of us. We congratulate grandma and give her gifts. Mom has more than once offered to grandmother to come live with her. But she categorically refuses to do so.
We have many times asked grandmother not to call us, when in fact she is not so bad. But Grandma keeps doing it anyway. And my mom and I are afraid not to come when she calls us. What if she really feels bad? After all, then we’ll never forgive ourselves…
