There are many things that we can all do to help out the homeless, even if it’s just something small. One great way is to donate clothes and food. You could also go volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. If you have some extra money, you could donate that as well! We should always keep in mind those who aren’t as fortunate and try to help out in whatever way we can.
The engineer, who goes by the name of Jacques-André Istel, has devoted his life to helping those less fortunate and designed a mobile homeless shelter that he calls ‘the Caban’. The unit is made up of six recycled shipping containers which can be easily assembled and disassembled, making it ideal for use in areas where homelessness is prevalent.
Each container accommodates four people and comes equipped with all the basic needs – beds, storage space, toilets and a kitchenette. What’s more, the Caban also has an energy efficient heating system to keep its inhabitants warm during colder months.
He took it upon himself to outfit homeless people with small solar-powered lamps. The lamp has a three-watt LED light that lasts up to 12 hours on one charge and also includes a USB port for charging cell phones or other devices.
The best part is that Reynal not only gives the lamps away, but he also installs them himself! He’s traveled all over France installing these lights in an effort to help make the lives of the homeless a little bit easier.
The designer, Aitor Ortiz, made the Iglou for a social project in which he hoped to provide people with some form of remote accommodation where they could stay warm and safe. The Iglou is not only easy to set up but it also helps keep you warm – even on the coldest days or nights.
The Iglou is a great solution to the homeless problem. It not only offers them a warm and safe place to sleep, but it also helps protect them from the elements. If damaged, the tent can be repaired and is also waterproof and recyclable. I hope that more cities will adopt this invention in order to help reduce homelessness.
