She loved him and he loved her. And everyone was fine with that union. They were an outlet for each other, understood each other half-heartedly and sympathetically. They could even communicate without words. They spoke the same language. How could that be?
She was in a hurry to meet him, getting younger, flying on wings, excitedly soaring through the apartment. And before the meeting she woke up, and the moment she woke up she was very happy, because she was going on a date with James.
At that time her husband was in the kitchen grumbling that the breakfast was poorly cooked again. Or no breakfast at all. Why didn’t she get up early? Their marriage was twenty years old and they were like family. She could walk around the house without combing her hair, without putting on makeup, without washing her robe, and he felt free to wear the family sweatpants.
They could even wash and hang their holey underwear on the balcony. They farted in front of each other. Valya was not ashamed of her husband and did not even try to look her best for him. Why did she need his attention? She had James for that.
They lived in separate rooms. Each had his own private life. They could not call it a high relationship. It was the only thing that suited everyone. Life was arranged, nobody bothered anyone. They go shopping together, have dinner together, cook meals together, go on holidays to their relatives. In short, they gave the impression of an enviable and well-established couple.
From time to time she felt irritated, and then she tried to think of James. He and she were the same age. They were both 42. And he was married. He complained about his wife all the time. She tried to run everything. He didn’t like it anymore.
She’s eating me up! She’s blowing my brains out! James complained. But she put his head on her chest, stroked his hair and soothed him. It was for him she dressed up in fine linen, did not stay overnight, not to show up in the morning not washed. After all, she was no longer a girl.
Her faith in James’ love was incredible. They found support in each other, complained about their wives and husbands, walked around holding hands, and were certain that their union was made in heaven.
One day James showed up at her place of work and invited her in for coffee. He informed her of his decision. I can’t go on. I am leaving my wife. If you agree, move in with me.
She didn’t think about it for a minute – she has been ready for this for a long time. The same day she packed up and moved in with him. He lived in a rented apartment. Her husband wasn’t home and she decided to leave him a note. I left. I’ll call and explain later.
James rented a one-bedroom apartment. At night she went to sleep in another room, set the alarm for 6 a.m., to have time to clean up. She waited for James to arrive in the evening, and all she could think about was where to hang her underwear after she’d washed them. I put them on the balcony. James came in. She noticed that he was uncomfortable, too.
When you’re old and married for many years, you always have certain habits. It’s already at a subconscious level. And when you’re around a new person, it’s hard to change yourself.
James put on his robe, she wore a smart dress. We had dinner in complete silence. Then James picked up the phone. Suddenly James’s stomach rumbled and he made a distinctive sound. Immediately he apologized – this supposedly happens to him after peas.
James, don’t be embarrassed, we’ve known each other for a long time. And we’re both adults now.
All right. – He muttered.
You can just walk around in your underpants. I’m used to it. Don’t worry about it.
Are you going to sit there in your outfit and makeup?
She went into the other room. They spent the night apart. A week later she returned to her husband. He was not even surprised. Only commanded – march into the kitchen to prepare dinner.
Her relationship with James was over.
