I have lived with my wife for 15 years, we have a great relationship, but they never got along with my mother, so we both took the position to reduce communication to a minimum in order to avoid unpleasant situations. All these years we lived peacefully, we visited my parents only on holidays.
After the death of his father, to pay utility bills from his pension alone, my mother, of course, can not afford it, because also need to eat, and a man needs a lot, though not a young man. I decided to talk to my wife to allocate a certain amount from our family budget to help my mother. But I never imagined that my wife’s reaction would be so negative! I don’t even want to remember what I heard from her. Shocked, I even forgot to remind her that we provide food for my mother-in-law every month and this is considered normal. Frankly speaking, I regretted my decision to discuss this issue with my wife, I should have just quietly, secretly from his wife, to help his mother, and everyone would have been happy.
For a few days I was gathering up the strength for a new conversation with his wife, looking for arguments and mentally very tough talk with her, but … when I decided to talk, I soon began to regret it again. My wife recalled all the conflicts and quarrels that had occurred between my mother and her, all the spiel and nicknames her mother-in-law had bestowed upon her. But when I reminded her that part of our budget had long been going to her mother and it would be fair if my mother would also receive help from her son, my wife proudly raised her head, marched into the bedroom and slammed the door with a loud bang.
Two months have passed since then, my wife only talks to me out of necessity, probably waiting for me to back off, for us to reconcile and for everything to go on as before. But what she doesn’t know is that every two weeks I leave my mother some money to live on. My wife apparently noticed the small inaccuracies in the family budget and started provoking a scandal again. I never thought my wife was so greedy and cruel, resentment against my mother-in-law has been carried for years. It’s been so long, my mother helped us in many ways, but my wife is too vindictive. I am trying to get through to her in every way, but so far all to no avail, and it comes to the point that I do not want to go home.
So what should I do in this situation? Stop helping my mother-in-law? It would be insensitive, I understand that you have to help the elderly. Yes, and my wife understands everything, and her behavior is only because of personal conflicts with my mother. But somehow we have to find a way out? I do not want to move to live with my mother, to teach his wife a lesson?
