Anna had been living with the idea of a lavish, expensive wedding, to which she would invite all of her distant relatives and even her former classmates. She wanted a dress, she wanted a limousine, and a very rich table. Max agreed to everything, as long as it was sooner.
And then my future mother-in-law started whispering that a wedding was good, but an apartment was more important. We invested in a new building. By the time they had saved up for the celebration and started thinking about ordering invitations, the apartment was ready, only the repairs needed to be done. Anna herself persuaded Max to do just that, and to postpone the wedding again.
Right after the move, somehow it happened that Anna got pregnant. It did not fit into their plans and nobody wanted to have a wedding with a belly. Anna already began to think that they probably were not destined to get married. Everything was against them.
– Don’t talk nonsense,” Max was elated by the news of the baby, “Fate is playing a trick on us, but we’re smarter than that, and we’ll cheat it.
– How?
– We’ll get married next month, and we’ll have the wedding after the baby’s born. No one will dare say the baby is illegitimate, and we’ll lie that we wanted a summer wedding, which is why we waited so long.
Anna and Max got married even earlier in the same month, and we planned the wedding in August, just like we wanted. Anna had time to give birth to a baby boy, to get in shape a little, and to dance at an expensive wedding, feeling like the happiest cheater of fate.
