We have a neighbor and part-time mother’s friend, Aunt Anna. Aunt Anna has a 32-year-old son, Jack. Jack is pretty good-looking, and he makes good money, too. He graduated from high school with honors. Since early childhood he was fond of computers and now works as an IT specialist in an advanced company. Not a groom, but a dream.
But Jack was in no hurry to get married. And when he finally told his parents that he would bring his girlfriend in the evening. Aunt Anna from happiness, ran around the house and told everyone this happy news. And so the son brought the girl to the house. The doorbell rang. Aunt Anna and her husband raced to open the door. When they opened the door, a happy smile slowly crept off their faces. What was their surprise at what they saw.
Aunt Anna collapsed on the ottoman in the hallway and could not utter a word. And my father could only say something like, “Well, show your miracle to the table. Aunt Anna called her son into the kitchen on the pretext of helping her take the pie out of the oven. She herself, dripping herself a glass of valerian, began to ask her son where he could find such a miracle in feathers. Trying to speak softly, so as not to offend the girl.
So somehow, in order not to offend their son, the parents sat at the festively set table. And when Jack went to see his princess off, Aunt Anna came running to us in tears. They sat in the kitchen half the night over mint tea, Aunt Anna telling us all the stories and wailing.
Where could her boy find such an ill-mannered, uneducated child? With hair all the colors of the rainbow. All in piercings and tattoos, Aunt Anna could not calm down.
If only she had been a modest, intelligent, hard-working girl. But she wasn’t. Some fool from a not-so-well-to-do family. Father drinks, mother works part-time as a cleaner, if anyone calls her to clean up after repairs or clean the staircase.
She hasn’t even finished school, let alone college. Aunt Anna was indignant. How was her son going to live with her? What was he thinking when he met her and brought her into their house? That this was not the daughter-in-law she had dreamed of for her Jack. And that she’d do anything to get them apart.
Do you think Aunt Anna’s right, or should the girl be given a chance? Who hasn’t done something wrong when she was young? Maybe she’ll make a good wife in the future.
