In December 2016, a tiny three-week old kitten was brought to Winchester SPCA shelter in Virginia. He had an unfortunate birth defect that caused him not to be able to use his back legs – he couldn’t walk or stand at all. The vets didn’t think the little guy would make it through the night, but some kind rescuers took him home and decided to give him a chance.
They named him Harpurr (a combination of Happy and Purr), and thanks to their care and love, he slowly started gaining strength. When Harpurr turned four months old, they reached out for help on social media because they knew he needed more specialized care than they could provide themselves.That’s when APRIL & Friends stepped in! We agreed to take custody of Harpurr so that we could get him the medical attention he needed and find him a loving forever family who could continue helping with his rehabilition process.
One day, when Shannon was out of town, she left Harpurr in the care of her teenage daughter Cinder. Initially, Cinder was hesitant to look after him because she had never taken care of a kitten before. However, as time went on and they got to know each other better, she grew to love him like he was her own pet. In fact, the only thing that made her happier than playing with Harpurr himself was watching videos online of other people playing with their kittens.
The bond between Harpurr and Cinder was instant, and the two have been best friends ever since. They love to run around together in the backyard at their home, chasing each other and playing games.
The two of them have been inseparable ever since and can often be found curled up together taking a nap.
Harpurr, a shy and introverted cat, is struggling to make friends at his new home. One day, he meets Cinder, a scruffy and independent dog who befriends him instantly. With Cinder by his side, Harpurr becomes more confident and comes out of his shell. Through this wonderful narrative, we want to convey the message that everyone needs a buddy who understands them and is constantly by their side. All in all, it’s a really sweet story.
