Mayor Leonardo Sgaramella said the city’s two feline mascots—Snowy and Blacky—posed for pictures atop the spruce every day since it was erected a few weeks ago.

He told The Local : “Every day we have people asking to take photos with them as they sit on the branches or play among the baubles.”
The display has been at the center of some controversy, with people either loving it or thinking that it’s a waste of money. Regardless, it’s definitely getting attention and making headlines across Italy.
There was one snag, however.
“A dog began to bark at the cats whenever they came near the tree, spoiling their new hangout spot,” Conte said.
But thankfully a local resident who feeds and takes care of the strays has been helping keep them safe while they enjoy their new home in Lucera’s town square.
The tree has been a hit with everyone who sees it, not just the cats. It’s brought cheer and some much-needed laughter to all in attendance.
