I ran into my former classmate at the market by chance, when I was buying groceries at home. I have been on my feet all morning, I was terribly tired, and even on my day off I had to run somewhere, because my husband is a saint, he just lies around the house and it’s not hard for me to go everywhere and do the cleaning, and cook food, and help my daughter with the grandchildren… And here I have free ears.
– Mark from school. I knew that we both lived in the same neighborhood as before, but somehow we hadn’t run into each other for years, and then we did. He complained to me about his job and his lonely life, and I complained about my lazy husband.
– I would have given anything to marry someone like you… I have never been lucky in terms of love, and I have never been married.
We weren’t just talking about the past, we were discussing the future, some plans for trips to our dachas, which were in different directions, construction, repairs, and somehow I mentioned my husband again, and Mark blurted it out:
– So let’s teach him a lesson. Move in with me for a while. We’ll tell our acquaintances that we fell in love, and see how long it takes before your husband begs you to come back.
I thought the idea was ridiculous. The neighbors would be talking about it. But as soon as I got home and had a fight with my husband, I immediately texted Mark that I agreed.
While my husband was asleep the next morning, I packed some of my things, wrote a note with a “confession” about my lover, and left. My husband far from immediately sounded the alarm and started looking for me. For a while he didn’t even think to call. While the house gradually fell into disrepair without my cleaning, and the refrigerator was empty, he did not need me, but after the arrival of the new payments suddenly worried, began to call.
In the meantime, I was doing pretty well at Mark’s place. He took care of himself, never let me do the dishes, cooked breakfast for two, and on weekends we went to his dacha together. I was happy to start planting a vegetable garden there.
My husband begged me on the phone to come back, said that he would forgive me any treason, and even let me see my lover, as long as we lived together again and I fulfilled my “duties”. He didn’t appreciate me any more, it turns out, he just realized that it was hard to cope alone. And now I don’t want to go home… I like Mark. He’s a good man, comfortable, it’s a pleasure to live with him. He hasn’t kick me out yet, he doesn’t even ask about my husband. I think he is also happy when we are together.
So what do I do? File for divorce and try to build a new relationship? I wouldn’t mind starting a new life, but I’m a little worried that Mark doesn’t think of me as a woman, only as a childhood friend. If I suddenly start something serious and he rejects me, I have to go back to my husband…
