Adam lay wet, hungry, and crying – a story about a guardian angel

Adam lay wet, hungry, and crying. Just recently, he was warm and well. And then he came into the world. And he was left all alone. Once in a while someone else’s hands took him, replaced the diaper on dry and put a pacifier with a liquid mixture in his mouth.

After enduring hunger, Adam would fall asleep and wake up to the fact that it was damp and cold again. Having lived in this world for several days, he already understood that something goes wrong, he should not be alone. In time the baby realized that it was useless to cry, and he just grunted quietly, waiting for the same strange hands.

-Kate, hi! Where’s the baby? – Kate’s neighbor came out to meet her.
– What do you care! Nowhere… I left him in the maternity hospital! I don’t need it! – Kate screamed.
-You’re out of your mind, woman! – Auntie was indignant. You left it on other people’s hands!

Kate wanted to send her neighbor away, but changed her mind: her aunt had helped her out more than once, she fed her and let her sleep over when her mother went on a bender and brought her suitors. Only her aunt did not condemn Kate for getting pregnant at such a young age, she talked the girl out of getting an abortion. And Kate decided even then that she would give birth and leave it in the maternity hospital.

-Come here! -Auntie grabbed Kate’s hand. – I made cakes and bought milk especially for you. And you… So that’s it!
-Auntie, what do I need it for? I don’t have money, I’m still studying, what to raise him with? – Kate made excuses.
-What’s he got to do with it? He’s much worse off than you! He’s on schedule there, lying in wet diapers, hungry, screaming at the drop of a hat! No one will come near him.
-Auntie! What do you want from me?!
– You’ve suffered all your childhood, you’ve never seen any care or affection, and you want that for your child?
-I have you, auntie,” Kate smiled through her tears.
-That’s right! And he’s got nothing!

Kate roared.

-So go and bring him home! Who was born?
-A little boy…
-Go get him! I’ll take him to live with me, I’ve got some things left from my son, I’ve got things to dress him up in!

Adam woke up hungry again. The room is quiet. He really wanted to cry, but there was no point… But then he heard a noise. Someone came to the crib and took Adam in their arms.

-My son,” Adam heard an unfamiliar, but very familiar voice. Soon Adam was in some sort of thing called a diaper, new warm pants, a nappy and a hat. They wrapped him in a warm blanket and took him in their arms, so warm that you could feel their warmth even through his clothes.

Kate spread the flowers and looked at the photo of her smiling grandmother.

-I’m sorry, Auntie,” the woman said, “you know – having a grandchild takes a long time. Anna, my daughter, had a difficult birth. But thank God everything ended well! We are home now. Her husband is very caring! And he wanted to send her to an abortion – it was too early, let’s live for ourselves. I talked her out of it, auntie, but how else? A little blood…

Here to the grave came two more: Adam and his wife.
-How is our grandmother? – The man asked, smiling.
-Lying down, listening… – said Kate.
-We want to tell you that we’re expecting a new addition to the family! – Adam hugged his wife.
-How wonderful! – Kate was so happy. – Auntie, did you hear? Your grandson has decided to become a father after all!

After standing by the grave they said goodbye and went home…
