Anna got up in the morning and got to work cleaning. She had to take the children to school and prepare a holiday table. Today they are going to have a party guests in honor of the promotion of her beloved husband.
The woman rarely went out in public, for she was immersed in her household chores. For the occasion, she decided to go and pick out a new dress. Shopping did not bring pleasure – all dresses emphasized the extra pounds. With a pity Anna chose a gray loose cut dress and went home.
A lot of guests came – the entire hall was packed. The husband invited not only relatives and friends, but all his coworkers. Everyone came with their soulmates. Anna sent the children to their mothers, because she understood that they would get in the way.
Anna served guests and served the table the whole evening, and her husband was the center of attention. He did not even once offered to help, which my wife did not like.
– Congratulations on your promotion! I am glad that your persistence and zeal for work was noticed. Good luck! And this is my wife, she will be the senior manager in your department. I hope you will work well together, – said the husband’s boss.
The woman was of model appearance, ten years younger than the others. The husband assessed her from head to toe and kissed her hand. Other men also began to introduce the birthday boy to their wives. He thought about it and with a deft movement of his hand grabbed the running Anna.
– And this is Anna. My housekeeper! – he said.
Everyone fell silent. Silence triumphed.
– I thought it was your wife all these years! – The husband’s friend laughed.
Anna snatched up her hand, cried, and ran into the kitchen. She was so hurt that it is impossible to describe her condition.
– Anna, how are you behaving? You embarrassed me! Do you have no sense of humor at all? – My husband was indignant.
– Why? Why did you humiliate me like that?
– Well, I could not imagine you as a wife. Look at the companions they have. And you run around with pots, shame on you.
Anna cried even more. She couldn’t believe it. She had sacrificed her career for her husband. It was he who had persuaded her to quit her job and devote herself to her children. And now he was ashamed? This was her “gratitude” for her wasted youth and self-sacrifice.
