After securing her mother’s approval for the purchase of an out-of-town apartment, Monica and Adam began to work on the deal. Once all the paperwork was done, Rebecca moved in, taking her belongings and essentials. The former owner had said he would leave all the furniture behind, and he wasn’t deceived – the little apartment remained as Rebecca had first seen it.
Lately she herself had been thinking of moving out of her daughter and son-in-law as soon as possible. Despite the fact that they behaved neutrally and tried not to quarrel over small things, yet the situation was tense all the time. There was a feeling that soon everyone would not endure and explode from the negativity that had accumulated. Rebecca was already dreaming of living alone and resting from the nightmare.
For the first few weeks this was the case. Rebecca got used to the local bus schedule and got to her job without a transfer. And when she returned home, she would quickly make dinner and relax, enjoying the peace and quiet. Even the phone was silent, Rebecca did not call her daughter, and she was not interested in how her mother was doing. On the weekend she took a walk along the bank of the river and walked along the edge of the forest park. She was beginning to like her life as a solitary person.
But all good things come to an end. After exactly three weeks, the silence was broken by a loud doorbell. When Rebecca opened the door, she saw her daughter and her two granddaughters on the threshold.
– Hi, mom! – Monica said hello.
– Hi,” Rebecca said in response, realizing why her daughter had come.
– Mom, stay with the girls and I will pick them up tomorrow,” Monica asked.
– I wanted to do a general cleaning.
– You put the children to bed and start cleaning. You have a room of 18 meters, you can clean it all in half an hour.
Monica didn’t understand why her mother contradicted her. After all, she believed that Rebecca’s life should revolve only around her, her granddaughters, and her worries. At that second, the youngest granddaughter threw herself into her grandmother’s arms, and the woman’s heart melted again. Those eyes, the nose, the sweet smile, the dimples on her cheeks, Rebecca realized that she herself missed her granddaughters very much.
– Okay,” Rebecca said.
Monica handed her mother a bag of things, turned around, and left without even saying goodbye. She did not come to pick up the girls until Sunday evening, knowing full well that Rebecca had to work on Monday.
From then on, Monica brought the children to her grandmother’s almost every weekend and left them until Sunday night. The only good thing about the whole situation was that Rebecca did not see her son-in-law.
