Sara planned to take her son to an eye doctor’s appointment across town. The woman asked to go home from work, knowing in advance that going to the doctor would take half a day. Mother and son were returning home tired and hungry.
After thinking for a while, Sara decided to call her husband: Maybe he could pick her up by car. Her husband said he was busy, but offered to stop by his mother’s house, who lived nearby. The woman was not burning desire to appear uninvited, but her husband assured her that he would soon be there, too, and then the family will return home by car.
Sarah doesn’t like to come home empty-handed, so she bought chocolates and cookies for tea on the way. She was raised that way.
Mom and her son arrived at Grandma’s house. At home she had the appetizing aroma of stuffed cabbage, fried potatoes, and herring. Both Sara and the boy had eaten in the morning, so the smell of food started to make them drool.
Her mother-in-law and father-in-law were just having dinner: they finished their cabbage rolls and started the potatoes with herring and salad. Sara was about to go to the kitchen when her mother-in-law stopped her abruptly and sent the guests to wait in the living room, saying that when they had finished, we would have tea together.
Sara was in complete shock, and she even lost her appetite. Fine her, but how could you not feed your own grandson? At least as a courtesy to offer dinner to the guests.
The hosts came into the living room and brought tea, but Sarah refused. The woman did not want to socialize, so she just sat and listened to her father-in-law’s stories. Her son drank tea with sweets, which they also brought.
As the family drove home in the car, Sara told her husband the whole story. The woman wondered if her husband had warned his mother about the guests. It turned out that her mother-in-law knew they were coming. Sarah then asked her spouse:
“Why, then, didn’t Grandma feed her grandson?”
He replied that there was nothing wrong, no one was hurt. He also reminded her that his mother hardly ever dined with us.
Sara became very hurt that her spouse didn’t take her side. The woman could not forget her beloved man’s position for a long time, because it was about his son. Sara avoided communication with her mother-in-law for a year, she never came to visit.
