My sister-in-law seems to be completely devoid of conscience. She’s the kind of woman who sits on her husband’s neck, doesn’t work, rags the shelves a couple times a month and calls it a general cleaning, and also hates babysitting her own kids.
She keeps saying she can’t handle it, that I’d rather do it, and leaves the grandkids to me. But the bottom line is that I, despite my retirement, also work part-time. It’s not a full-time job, so I go out sometimes, but it still obliges me to do something. And it is very unpleasant when I am in a hurry, getting ready for work, and my sister-in-law calls me and says that she is already under the driveway, bringing me grandchildren, because she needs a manicure or to meet with friends.
She never asks if it’s comfortable for me to babysit, and she’s not interested in my business.
I’ve tried to discuss it with her, but she just closes the subject without even opening it. She is good at this, and I get lost. My son is also not up to it: no matter how I call him, he is always busy and asks me to hurry up, because he has things to do. So here, too, I can’t complain or figure things out.
I love my grandchildren, and I’m happy to babysit them, but I have to coordinate my schedule somehow, and not unceremoniously hang my children on me.
