Good afternoon, my dear readers! Now I am more than thirty years old, but I still remember that time.
My father left the family when I was barely thirteen and my brother was three. We were eating breakfast that day, as usual, as a family. Suddenly my father told everyone that he had found another woman and was leaving the family. I can still remember that morning, I remember how my mother’s eyes filled with tears. No, our mother did not throw tantrums, she did not beat the dishes and did not shout. The only thing she said at the time was “okay.
I could see that my mother’s soul was tearing apart, she was just trying not to show my brother and me that she was in a lot of pain. Then my father packed up and left the family, he left not only our mother, but us his children as well.
Dad’s new lady was ten years younger than him and lived next door. I can’t even imagine how painful it was for our mother to see them walking together every day to the store, to work, and just for a walk. Our mother loved our father very much, and after he left she went to work because she needed something to feed us.
Every morning before school I would drop Robert off at daycare. One morning our father jumped on the bus with us and his sweetheart. Daddy pretended he didn’t know us and immediately turned away from us in the other direction. Robert stretched out his arms toward him and shouted:
– Daddy!
I began to tell my brother that he was mistaken and that it wasn’t our father, just a strange uncle who looked like him. When I calmed my brother down, tears were streaming down my cheeks. After a while, our daddy bought a car, and every time he drove past us, he looked away.
That day on the bus, I erased my father from my life forever, and later I even asked my mother not to talk about him in front of me. After high school, I graduated from medical school and now work as a nurse. Our mother lived alone for ten years, and I dreamed day after day that she would meet a man who would make her happy.
It wasn’t until ten years after the divorce that Frank came into my mother’s life. I can’t even tell you in words how much effort it took for this man to make our mother believe in love again. Both my brother and I are very happy for our mother. Our birth father never came into our lives again. In his second marriage, he had a son.
About six months ago I found out that my father had left this life. I won’t say it was a big drama for me, but the news made me sad because he never realized that we had always waited and loved him. I always hoped that time would pass and he would realize that we were also his children and we needed his love. However, that never happened…
