– I went to babysit my grandson,” Helena told an acquaintance, “my son had a shift today, so I had to spend the whole day with him. No time for myself.
– Has your daughter-in-law already gone to work, because your grandson is just a baby?
– No,” Helena answers sadly, “she is still on maternity leave. But instead of daughter-in-law in the maternity leave, and me, and my daughter and son, if not on shift, even my husband sometimes babysits grandson.
– And what does your daughter-in-law do? – My friend asks.
– She disappears with her mother. As soon as someone appears on whom she can dump the child, she rushes off at once.
– Why doesn’t she take her son with her?
– It’s so complicated there, a child would be in her way…
Maria has been living with Helena’s son for more than six years. The couple lives in a rented apartment. For several years the young people have been saving up to buy a mortgage apartment. And then, when the dream was already quite close to their son-in-law, they were diagnosed with cancer. Maria and her mother are very close, she was already pregnant at that time, and because she cried a lot of mother-in-law even began to worry about her pregnancy.
Then the daughter-in-law forced her husband to give all the money he had saved to her mother for the treatment. He had nowhere to go, he of course gave in to his wife, because Maria roared to the point that she was in danger of miscarriage.
– Of course my sister-in-law has another son, who is five years older than her daughter-in-law, and an older daughter, they could all contribute to the operation, but her brother and sister mother refused to help, saying that they have no money.
– I haven’t had a job for four months, I’ve been living on my wife’s shoulders,” said the brother.
– My husband and I have two children and I’m on maternity leave, so I don’t have a penny extra,” my sister told her mother.
– That’s the way kids are,” Helena complained. – My son and daughter-in-law did not manage to take out a mortgage and they spent all the money on their sister-in-law’s medical treatment. But that was half the problem. Even after the surgery, there was no one to take care of her daughter-in-law. My daughter-in-law took care of her mother with her belly. And when she gave birth, she left the baby with everyone she could. And now all the son’s earnings are spent on his mother-in-law, so they are unlikely to be able to save up for a down payment on a mortgage in the near future.
– Is the daughter-in-law not doing well now, has the treatment been useless?
– At first, even after the operation the prognosis was not good, – Helena says, – now she is not in great pain, but she cannot help herself. Maria now all the time goes to her, because she needs to buy, turn her over and take her to the balcony for a walk.
– And why don’t the young ones move in with their mother, it would be so much easier that way?
– Maria wanted to, but her son didn’t agree. Now the daughter-in-law has become very capricious, she has worn out her daughter-in-law completely.
At her mother’s first demand she rushes to her, but it is not so easy to do, because first you have to find someone to take care of the child. She asked her sister and brother for help, but they refused.
– The most unpleasant thing is that after all this, her sister-in-law’s house will still be divided into three. So it turns out that, like it or not, we all got dragged into this story.
– Doesn’t the mother-in-law understand that her daughter is homeless because of her illness? It’s always been the caregiver of the parents. You should tell your sister-in-law if she doesn’t know…
– Yes, I tried to talk to her about the fact that my son and her daughter, all their savings gave for her surgery and now her treatment is being paid, so we need to decide somehow honestly with who gets housing.
– And what about my sister-in-law?
– Started screaming that I have nothing to interfere in their business, and as it has three children, and the apartment will be divided among the three. My sister-in-law then threw me out, and even my sister-in-law after all this offended so that she did not communicate with me for a couple of months.
– Why are you burying my mother alive, because she hopes to recover? – Maria said to her mother-in-law.
– I wanted to do better, you take all your son’s earnings to his mother for treatment, and you hardly ever see your child. While you babysit your mother, we all sit with your child…
– Yes, this is the situation, you have nowhere to go, you have to help your daughter-in-law, – says her friend.
– And that is the problem, we all sit with Maria’s son, she is no stranger to us, and I pity her mother, because she herself is suffering.
What do you think Helena should have done in this situation to keep quiet or talk to her sister-in-law about inheritance?
