I met my husband when we were in college. And when we got our diplomas, Jack and I got married. We moved in with my mother-in-law, with whom I didn’t have a good relationship. My mother-in-law was always picking on me and saying that I didn’t cook properly, I didn’t iron the laundry properly. I didn’t even wash the floors properly. She was constantly controlling me.
That’s why Jack and I started fighting. Then we had a serious discussion with him. And we decided to move to a rented apartment. So we did. How good we were together when we started living separately! Our relationship got better. We started living beautifully and never quarreled at all. After six months, we decided it was time for us to become parents. But we decided that we weren’t going to live in a rented apartment with a child.
– Why would we pay someone else money when we can pay money for our own apartment? – Jack said.
We applied to the bank for a mortgage. And in two months we were already living in our apartment.
We were very happy. But, unfortunately, not for long. Our happiness was spoiled by my mother-in-law. She started coming to visit us all the time and she behaved like a hostess in our apartment. I had the feeling that we were back living in my mother-in-law’s house. And she was constantly unhappy with everything. I wasn’t folding things the right way, I wasn’t cleaning up well, and I wasn’t cooking well. And then she came to us one day and said she had decided to rent out her apartment.
– I even found tenants! I’ll live at your place. And when the baby’s born, I’ll be at home with him. And you’ll get a job so you can pay the mortgage as soon as possible! – my mother-in-law told me.
So she decided everything for me! I was so mad! I screamed like crazy. I told her everything that was on my mind. My mother-in-law and Jack looked at me in amazement. My mother-in-law silently took her things and left.
I thought that after that we would never speak to her at all. But after six months our relationship was better. I had a baby girl. My mother-in-law immediately changed her attitude toward me. She came to visit me often and helped me.
Now my daughter is older, and my mother-in-law often takes her to her house on weekends. My mother-in-law does not interfere in my housekeeping anymore. And recently she confessed to me:
– When you kicked me out of your apartment that day, I realized that you were a good wife and my son wouldn’t be lost with you.
