I am 33 years old. My husband and I have two children. When my husband got a new job, he became a completely different person. He even thinks differently now. His character and habits have changed. But the worst part is how terribly his appearance has changed. I really don’t like the way my husband looks now. He doesn’t look at all like the man I married.
My husband, Carl, lost the office job he had worked at for seven years a year and a half ago. He couldn’t find another job like that. To be exact, there were plenty of jobs, but the pay was very low. Of course, it was clear from the start that we would not be able to live on my husband’s salary. After all, we had to pay the mortgage on the apartment and we have two small children. And I was on maternity leave with our youngest son, who is only a year and a half.
So Carl got a job as a construction worker. He’s been working there for over a year now: laying tiles and doing concrete work. I understand that he works very hard and the work is dirty. But you can’t let yourself go like that. Carl is so dirty right now, he can’t even wash himself completely. His face and neck are black with tan, and the rest of his body is white under his clothes. Carl’s legs are in terrible shape, too.
I offered my husband a manicure and a foot treatment. And he turned me down:
– Why would I waste my time on such nonsense? Even if I get my hand nails in order now and get my heels cleaned, I’ll go to work again tomorrow and I’ll be the same!
When Carl gets home from work, he eats and goes straight to bed. When he worked in the office, he looked very different. He always took care of himself: he wore normal clothes and used toilet water. And now he can walk around in the same sweater and pants all the time. Now he can even go to work in wrinkled clothes.
– You don’t have to iron anything! I’ll be changing anyway at work. And what I’ll be wearing to work now doesn’t matter at all.
In the summer, my husband wears a T-shirt and shorts. And he wears slippers on his feet.
– What do you want me to wear to my construction site? In a suit and tie?!
Carl didn’t like to buy himself new clothes much before either. But we still updated his closet at least once in a while. And now he absolutely refuses to buy himself any clothes. He won’t even shave every day. I am afraid that soon he will stop brushing his teeth too.
I understand that my husband has a lot of work to do so that we can have a normal life. I understand that it’s hard for him. But I really don’t like the way my husband looks right now. I wanted Carl to be influenced by his mother. I told my mother-in-law everything and complained about her son. I told her about how we recently got together and went to the park with the kids and my husband. I looked great. I dressed the kids nice, too. But my husband wore shorts and flip-flops. He ruined my mood with that. But my mother-in-law didn’t support me.
– Many men are lazy and don’t want to work. Carl’s not afraid to work. He’s working his ass off to make sure you have a normal life! Look for another man with nice nails if you don’t like my son!
I talk Carl into getting another job. He doesn’t refuse, but after a day at the construction site he is very tired and he doesn’t want to look for a new job. In fact, he doesn’t believe he’ll be able to do anything at all.
– Now many of my acquaintances are out of work. Someone became a security guard, someone works as a courier, and someone got a job as a driver. But to find a normal job in the office now is very difficult. So, I’m going to work at my construction site for now! – Carl tells me.
And I don’t like the kind of person my husband is turning into. I look after myself, sit on a diet. And Carl just looks terrible. He just gave up on himself. You can’t let yourself go like that…
