My father convinced me on various pretexts to become the owner of his apartment. I think he had some kind of premonition. But I really didn’t have time to redo the papers.
– Come on, let’s go!
– Go where?
– Where we should have gone a long time ago.
He was thrilled with the idea.
– Will you put the water and my things, please, too, – Helena planned to just stay at her father’s house, since she was tired of papers and in the office.
– I’m already over seventy, I do not understand the new technology, I may not understand what they tell me. What if I sign something wrong, and then you will never forgive yourself.
After this phrase, Helena agreed. Her father is absolutely right. If something goes wrong, she will never forgive herself for her indifference.
– I can’t move in with you, because I have a job, a career, a place to live and a fiancé there,” Helena replied.
– I’m not even asking you to do that, I just want to sign it.
Helena looked at her parent in silence.
– Believe me, it will be more reliable, – said her father.
She did not like the idea, she thought it would be dishonest. But in principle she understood her father. Helena herself had a bad feeling.
For another New Year’s Eve, Helena wanted to give her father a dishwasher, because he had been dreaming of one for a long time. She bought herself a new dress and went to the apartment, which had already belonged to her for more than six months. Robert worked all night on New Year’s Eve. The girl wanted to stay with her father and return in the morning.
– Will you bring her back at three? We had agreed on an hour. And it’s a holiday, so you can’t make it in time! If you give me a discount, I’ll do it.
Her father hadn’t met her, so the misgivings began to grow. He always waited for her at the station, even when she asked him not to.
– I wanted to tell you everything myself,” Dad said.
Next to him stood a woman who looked fifty-five. The lady reported that she was busy decorating the house.
– This, Sarah,” the father introduced the lady.
– Helena .
The surprises didn’t end there, however.
– Mother, why do we need toys for the Christmas tree? I have to run to my friends,” the boy put the box in the closet.
Then the girl came out:
– Mommy, why are you wasting our time.
– Mommy? What’s going on here… Helena had a lot of questions that she never got around to expressing. Her father began to fuss, helped her carry her things in and offered her some tea.
– Was it a dream? – the girl inquired.
– What do you mean?
– All this time you did not even think it necessary to tell me that you have a woman and that she has two children. Why didn’t you? You and I talk on the phone all the time.
– I should have told you in person, you don’t tell me that on the phone.
Actually, Helena didn’t mind, because her father must also have had a private life. It was understandable that she was somewhat embarrassed that her father’s woman had two student children who had moved in with her, but she didn’t see that as a serious problem.
The problems started later. At first the father started hinting to his daughter that it would be nice if she re-signed the apartment back to him, and then he just put Helena before the fact. Robert advised her to go along with it.
– It’s not my father’s initiative,” Helena replied. – It’s what Sarah would want if she were alone, but after all, she has two others.
Helena resisted for as long as she had the strength.
– You insisted that we register the apartment in my name, you said it would be safer. I live apart from you, I pay the rent.
– Sara was uncomfortable in someone else’s house.
That made sense.
– She wants a piece of your apartment. I think you know exactly how this is going to end for you.
– I don’t want to think about it.
Helena only agreed after the new in-laws got through to her superiors and presented everything as if she insisted that her father move out of his apartment.
– I didn’t believe it,” the boss told the girl, “you’ve been working for us for years. You’ve always been kind and executive, you would never do that to your father in your life.
Helena got off work and rushed to her parent.
– Come on, let’s go,” she shouted at her father without any explanation.
Her father did not even understand at once.
– Let’s get dressed and go. If you can’t trust me, let’s go at once.
Helena was not in the mood for jokes.
– Just like that?
– I won’t have time to do it the day after tomorrow. Of course we’re going now. I’ve always admitted that this place is yours, and I have no use for it, not in documents, not in fact.
The girl stood at the front door and waited for her father.

– We’ll talk later, but now it’s a matter of priority.
