I am 58 years old. I have two children: a daughter and a son. Of course, they are adults and already have families of their own. The four of us live in a two-room apartment. Our son and his wife live with me and my husband. Now Victoria is pregnant and they are having a baby in two months.
My daughter, on the other hand, has two apartments. One apartment is where Kate and her husband live. And my daughter rents out her second apartment. These apartments my daughter Kate didn’t buy. She inherited them from her father. I was married twice. I was divorced from my first husband, Kate’s father, very many years ago. And then I got married and had my son Alex.
Kate promised me that when Alex came back from the army, she would make sure she gave him one apartment. But then my mother-in-law intervened, and now Kate changed her mind. The mother-in-law told Kate that she should not think of her brother first, but of her child. She said that her brother has his father, and he should buy his son an apartment.
And I really resented that. After all, Alex’s father has been raising Kate since she was three years old. My second husband loves us all very much. And my first husband drank and hurt me a lot. That’s why I divorced him. But my second husband is a very good man. He’s great! He always helped me with household chores, gave me his entire paycheck, and loved my daughter very much. He never spared anything for her. He even took her for walks in the park, taught her how to ride a bike, and took her to the sea.
When I had Alex, my husband’s attitude toward my daughter didn’t change. Kate was generally convinced that my husband was her birth father and was very surprised when she found out he wasn’t. And my first husband even very rarely paid child support for his daughter.
And then Kate inherited two two-bedroom apartments in Moscow from her father when she was 19. My ex-husband drove the car. He had his parents in the car, too. The husband was drunk, and they had an accident. All of them died. There were no other relatives and so my husband and I buried them all.
Kate inherited two two-bedroom apartments, one from her father and one from her deceased grandparents.
We renovated them, and Kate lived in one of the apartments on her own. And she began to rent the second apartment. But we immediately agreed with Kate that she would give her second apartment to Alex when he grew up. Kate was okay with that. She and Alex had always had a great relationship. They loved each other very much. And then Kate got married and had a son.
And so when Alex got married, the question came up that he needed somewhere to live with his wife. I was sure that Kate would give her second apartment to Alex. But she refused to do it. That’s how her mother-in-law set her up.
And I feel very bad for my son. After all, Alex’s father never spared Kate anything. The baby will be born very soon, and we will all be cramped for space in a two-room apartment. But how can I convince my daughter that she is acting very unkindly towards her own brother?
