My husband and I were born and raised in the same village. Then we got married and decided to move to the city. At first we lived in a rented apartment, we both worked. And then we managed to save up money and bought an apartment with a mortgage. Soon we had children.
In general, we live like many families do. Of course, our relatives from the village come to us very often. We, of course, welcome them well. But still, you have to have a conscience. And recently a very unpleasant story happened with my aunt.
My mother has a cousin. She wanted to move to the city. My aunt asked to let her stay with us temporarily while she found a rental apartment and got a job. My husband and I didn’t say no.
Everything was fine for the first week. My aunt would leave early every day and look for work. And then she would come in and eat and lay down to rest. But after two weeks, my aunt stopped going anywhere at all and stopped looking for work. She just ate and lay on the couch. She spent all day watching TV and doing nothing.
When I asked her:
– Auntie, have you found a job yet?
And my aunt said that so far she could not find a good job, and she did not want to work for a penny. Auntie was getting cheeky every day. She started bossing me around and telling me what I had to cook for dinner, what kind of food I had to buy. And then she demanded of my daughter, who had just come from school, that she go to the store. I was just dumbfounded by the insolence.
– Why don’t you go yourself? I mean, Kate’s tired. She just came from school, and you were home all day! – I got indignant.
– You’ve spoiled Kate! Then go yourself! – my aunt demanded.
My husband, when he heard that, got very angry. He packed my aunt’s things and demanded that she leave immediately. Aunt left. She told all her relatives how angry we had become.
Now our relatives no longer call us and ask to stay with us. But how long this lull will last – I don’t know.
