The other day I was talking to a neighbor. A woman was complaining to me that her daughter and her son had gotten out of hand. They are always asking her for money.
“Especially my daughter acts shamelessly, she is always taking money from me. My daughter works. She and her husband are raising two school-age children. Her spouse earns good money, but that doesn’t stop her from asking me for money at least three times a week.
On retirement day, the calls start early in the morning. I’ve told her a million times that I don’t have a printing press, I live off the penny myself. I even stopped taking her phone calls. I asked my son to talk to my sister, but I don’t know if he did.
However, my son also borrows from me from time to time, but he, unlike my daughter, pays back the debt every time. And with my daughter, it’s a different story… I am tired of being just another source of income for my adult daughter. I no longer work part-time and live on one pension. My whole family budget with my husband consists of his and my pension.
However, our daughter is not embarrassed by this, and she constantly asks us for money and never pays us back. Once I tried to tell her that we do not have extra money, and she told me: “Mom, tell me why you need money? Is money more important to you than your daughter and your own grandchildren?” But I really do not feel sorry for the money, I’m just tired of consumerism on her part. I’ll get over it somehow!”
After my neighbor’s story, I felt very sorry for her. How is it possible that she and her husband worked all their lives, raised their children, and they do not feel even basic gratitude to their parents!
