My mother-in-law won’t let me sell my apartment, but my husband listens to her

A month ago I found out I was pregnant for the second time. I immediately told my husband that we needed to do something about the apartment. We live in the apartment his mother bought for Brian just before we got married.

For three whole years, my husband and I and our son lived in a small studio apartment. Of course, the apartment was registered in Brian’s name. My mother-in-law gave us the keys to this apartment as a wedding present. The apartment was small, but we were still very happy with Bryan for such a gift.

My mother-in-law had been collecting money for an apartment for her son for many years. Of course, this apartment was very cramped for the three of us. There was no room to spare at all. And now I’m pregnant again. Of course, the four of us can no longer live in this apartment. I persuaded Brian to sell the apartment and use the money as a down payment to buy a two-bedroom apartment with a mortgage.

We have some savings and so the mortgage wouldn’t be that big of a deal. Plus, we would have added maternity capital as well. But when my mother-in-law found out about it, she forbade Brian to sell the apartment

– The apartment I gave you before the wedding is only your living space! And if you buy something together, then in a divorce, the apartment will be divided in half. And she will still be on maternity leave for a long time. And the money for the mortgage you have to pay alone! And you will divide the apartment in half! – My mother-in-law said.

– Why are we divorcing Brian? We live so well with him! The second child is about to be born. If that’s your way of thinking, then you shouldn’t have let Brian marry me at all! – I became indignant.

But the most insulting thing is that Brian listens to his mother.

According to the documents of the apartment belongs to him, and he could not even ask his mother’s permission to sell the apartment. But he said that he would not sell the apartment if his mother is against it.

– I have no right to dispose of this apartment! After all, my mom has been collecting money for this apartment for many years. And I have not invested a penny in this apartment! – says my husband to me.

And I do not know what to do. I just don’t know how the four of us are going to fit into this tiny apartment if I can’t convince Brian to sell the apartment and buy a two-bedroom apartment on a mortgage…
