This little dog was abandoned by his first family when he was only 9 months old. They slammed the door in his face and it was hard for Benito to understand that they didn’t want him by their side anymore. Learn how his story began. On August 16, 2021, FundaDog (the foundation that rescued Benito) published on its Facebook page some pictures of how the little dog who had resigned himself to die after being abandoned by his family looks now.
Benito went from being a stray and rejected dog to a very spoiled one. He can be seen walking and enjoying dips in the water, while the photos of how he was found show a dog with many health problems. The story of this little animal begins in Mexico when his first family decided to lock him out of the house and close the door. Benito waited outside for a long time. They never gave him food or water. They only opened the door to make him understand -through shouting and mistreatment- that he was no longer part of the family.
So Benito decided to look for food on his own in the dumpsters. He became full of parasites, mange and skin infections. He was only 9 months old and had already suffered the worst of abandonment. The little dog began to wander the streets while death was at his heels. Until FundaDog came to his rescue.
Iris Flores, a FundaDog rescuer, took Benito to the vet immediately. Benito was very scared and according to the professional, there was not much hope.
The tests showed demodectic mange, skin infection, fleas, ticks, very advanced malnutrition and parasitosis. In addition, the veterinarian informed them that Benito had a reserved prognosis because he no longer had the will to live. He was letting himself die and was not eating because he was so weak. But the rescuers were not intimidated by these results and decided to fight for this little dog’s life. They bathed him, fed him and started his treatment.
Although Benito was still fearful, as the days went by he had the confidence to show himself to be a very affectionate dog. By this time he was living in a temporary home, Iris’ mom’s house. These two characters created a unique connection between them. They loved each other so much that Benito’s improvement was noticeable. Some areas of his body no longer grew hair, but his personality still made more than one admirer fall in love with him.
The day his caregiver and rescuers decided that Benito was ready to find a new home, the dog said goodbye to his great friend while they both looked sad.This dog found a family who, regardless of his appearance, fell in love with him when they learned his story. Benito is now over a year old, loves to go for walks, swims in the creeks and spends his days being happy and above all very loved.
