We discussed all the details and decided to move in together. And why not? That’s how many advantages we found in our idea:
We’re single. At sixty, finding a man is not so easy, and if you are lucky, you can always solve the apartment problem. Children and grandchildren live far away. Relatives will only be happy that their grandmothers are not bored. When we were young, we rented the same apartment. I had a small child at the time, but somehow we got along, even though our characters were complicated. We won’t be bored. We would clean together, cook, and come up with a cultural program so we wouldn’t spend too much time at home.
Financial stability. Our expenses will be shared, the income from the rented apartment. We’ll still be on the plus side! Comprehensive care. If someone gets sick or has an illness, there will be help around the clock.
In general, we have seen only pluses in cohabitation!
The reality .
The first argument was about choosing an apartment. Each of us wanted to stay in our own territory, each of us found strong arguments. I was ready to vacate my apartment, but I was arguing so my friend wouldn’t think I was always going to yield to her.
The second argument was about the amount of stuff. When I gave in to my friend and started to move my belongings, she began to resent me, saying that I have too much stuff. We have nowhere to put everything, and leave it in the apartment I was afraid – just don’t know what kind of tenants we will get.
We solved the problem by renting a garage and taking the crockery and various household items there. Soon we found tenants, and then the fun part began. At first I felt that my friend was infringing on my interests. I felt like a guest, but then I let go.
Living together did not stick, because there was no equality. She was used to keeping household chemicals in one place and I in another. I had to listen to her all the time since she is the mistress of the house.
Then it turned out that we liked different foods. I kept silent here too, trusting the tastes of my friend. Over time I got used to it, forgot about my preferences. Another nuance came out – I am a very sensitive sleeper, and my girlfriend likes to fall asleep to the TV on. I was annoyed by the sounds, even earplugs don’t always help.
Many of the disadvantages overshadowed the benefits. We tried to put up with them and find compromises. But then there was a climax: I noticed that my friend got annoyed at the sight of me. I seemed to meet all her requirements, but something pissed her off.
Then she stopped talking to me. A day went by, a second, a week… I was constantly thinking about how I could offend her. Then I broke my patience – I just cried in front of her. My friend started to cry too, she admitted that she did not know why she was so nervous. And I realized – just people need to live in their own house and by their own rules. It’s better to see each other more often than to live together.
We broke the lease, and our relationship immediately improved.
