You could say that I am a professional renovator. I do it for a long time, turning it into a profitable business. Sometimes relatives come to me for help with repairs or minor repairs. And then one day I get a call. I pick up the phone, and there’s a cousin there. Calling, he says, to call you for help.
In a couple of days, I start repairing, are you free now? I didn’t say no, I always help my relatives if I can. As it turned out, the materials for the repair had already been bought and delivered, and as soon as I arrived I got involved in the process. This work brings me great satisfaction, I always enjoy the process.
I don’t like to take money from my relatives. Although my brother offered it to me, I refused. The apartment has changed a lot since the repairs. You bet! It took us about two weeks. And so, when all that was left was a little unfinished and a pile of junk in the hallway that needed to be taken to the dump, my brother came up with an idea.
“Maybe you could use it all. Put it in the garage for now, and then you might be able to use it, make something for yourself or your customers. You’ll save some money.” So I decided to take the rest of the building materials. Tiles, laminate, boards, paint. Why, there’s room in the garage for storage, I do all sorts of things with gusto.
I decided to talk to my brother, good thing I recorded our conversation on the phone. What she told me looking me in the eye, was even to me a surprise. I share the video with you:
It’s a hobby of mine. I thanked my brother. On that we agreed. In short, the repair was finished by evening. We took the construction waste to the addresses: something to the trash, something to me in the garage for storage. My brother and I sat for a while, celebrated the finished repairs, and I left for my place.
The next day everything went as usual, at two o’clock a call from my brother. “Hi. I think you owe me for the building materials. How much is not a pity. They’re good boards. The laminate is a beauty. You could have sold the tiles, too. Would it be convenient to transfer to the card?”
To say that I was surprised is not enough. Promised to call back closer to evening, referring to the work. But even after release did not call. I was, frankly, in shock.
I do not know what to tell him now. How to communicate. After all, I helped him for free. And the materials were actually for throwing away, no one would buy the rest. He wanted to throw them away himself, and then he decided to offer them to me. Should I charge him for the repair?
