The most effective and permanent way to do so will surely always be to adopt a pet, although there is the problem that for some people, the size of their heart does not match their living conditions.
This is why some intermediate options have been invented, such as giving a temporary home to a pet. What is done with this is to take care of a puppy for a couple of months, until it can find a permanent home. This takes some of the work off the shelters, who are always struggling to care for a large number of animals with limited resources.
That’s what Roman’s family did, a six-year-old boy who, along with his family, offered to take care of Maggie the puppy for a couple of months. Because of her young age, the puppy needed someone to give her special care. Roman’s family was not in a position to adopt the puppy forever, but they agreed to give her a temporary home. It was during this time that Roman and Maggie became inseparable.
Roman’s parents feared it might have all been a bad idea: the boy might have gotten too close to the puppy and would no longer know how to let her go. To their surprise, not only was Roman most positive when he heard that Maggie would have a forever home, but he took the trouble himself to write her a letter of recommendation. That he did by taking pencil and paper. In a couple of lines, he told the new owners all the things the puppy enjoyed doing, as well as the places where she sometimes got a little too smart.
