“That grubby, untidy boy took a piece of pie right out of his son’s hands and said, ‘I’m hungry! “

My family and I often go to the park after work. We have a little picnic and share the day’s experiences. Our son also loves this tradition. Yes, and his appetite is better in nature. If the weather permits, we take all kinds of games or ride bikes. In general, we try to spend time with benefit and quality.

Once we came to our place in the park and put out trays with food. While I was chopping vegetables, my son was skateboarding. Suddenly an unfamiliar toddler came up to us. He looked about three years old. He took the skateboard away from my son and started skating without asking.

But the skateboard was too big for his age. He tried, pushed off, but still fell down. His mother was sitting on a nearby bench at the time, but didn’t even think to make a comment. My son is not greedy – he calmly stepped aside and waited for the boy to return the skateboard. But he remembered to warn him that it was dangerous, especially since he was still little.

The boy dropped his skateboard and came over to us. We were already drinking tea and cake by then, having finished our main meal. The scruffy, untidy boy took a piece of pie right out of my son’s hands and said:
– I’m hungry!

My son was literally dumbfounded by such insolence. However, to share his favorite pie, he had no intention. The problem was that there was no more goodies – I could not give the kid a treat.

The boy was not confused and reached for the thermos. I tried to explain that we only have three cups, we do not allow to drink from his. He calmly threw the thermos down and began to rummage in my bag. The whole time his mom didn’t even look in our direction. My husband politely sent the boy to his mother. He ran to her, but literally 5 minutes later came back and grabbed his skateboard. That’s when his mother perked up. She called him to her. They went off somewhere.

I think that at three years old the child should already know that nothing can be taken without demand. And begging for food from strangers is uncivilized. I can’t even imagine my son behaving this way. In my mind, I know that the problem is in his upbringing. His mother didn’t teach him to behave normally, so it wasn’t his fault.

I certainly didn’t feel bad about feeding someone else’s child, but why did my mother act so indifferent? What would you have done if you were me?
