My husband and I became parents early enough. We didn’t plan a pregnancy, but it just so happened.
I did not sit on the maternity leave, as my work is remote. The only help we have is my mother-in-law, who lives in the next block. She has a very active life, a lot of hobbies and friends, but once a week she consistently takes her grandson to her place. They walk, socialize, spend time together, and then I get rebuked for being a bad mother.
My grandson is adored by my mother-in-law. She is ready to give the last of her life to him, she never spares money on him. My husband and I can’t afford much of what mother-in-law buys my grandson.
Every Saturday she eats my brain with a teaspoon. The phrase “you want to kill the child” is heard an endless number of times. At the same time, my mother-in-law does not forget to wave her hands, shed tears and criticize all my actions.
Why? Yes, because I do not put on a sweater in sub-zero temperatures, I do not warm water for him and teach him to be self-sufficient.
Grandma makes a cabbage out of him. He comes home in a wool sweater, mittens, felt boots, three hundred more underneath. She packs the baby, and she walks around in a thin sock. Naturally, the son gets steamed up in all this, starts to get cranky and beg to go home. This brings up another of my “mistakes” – I have accustomed the child to stay at home, he does not even want to go for a walk.
When I take the baby away from his mother-in-law, he is soaking wet. As a result, he is constantly sniffling and sore. I’m already tired of fighting with this, and it seems we need to use drastic methods and forbid my grandmother to communicate with my grandson.
What should I do? How can I pacify her?
