– Just before the holidays I gave away everything, put some of it in the trash, and then she packed me a whole bag again. My mother-in-law has a thing for canned goods. She spins and spins all summer long. She complains that she gets tired, but she does it anyway. Why should everything be preserved on such an industrial scale if no one eats it? – complains 40-year-old Julia.
– All the harvest for business?
– Yep. As she goes in the spring, she comes back in late fall. Half a year planting, half a year processing the harvest. She’s also offended if we don’t want to help. Yeah, we don’t have a chance, we work weekends. I tried to hint at her that it is time to knock it off with the preparations, nowadays you can buy everything in the store, if you suddenly feel like it, – explains Julia.
– Well, do not take the can, and that’s all.
– So it is possible to explain something to her? While we rummaged in the house, she made us all the trunk. She heroically salts these cucumbers, and then I have to throw them away. My neighbors are already full of her cucumbers, as well as colleagues – the woman sighs.
– And what do you do with them? Do you really throw them away? Give it up, it’s a pity.
– I tried to refuse, but she took offense. I have to take everything, throw it all away, and bring her back empty jars. Sometimes I buy new ones to cover up the crime. Oh, tired of it all! – Julia complains.
Do you think she is doing the right thing? Is this a courtesy? Preservation is not easy work. Maybe Julia would try to assert her boundaries and just go home without a twist?
Better to let her mother-in-law be offended than to make such a mockery of her hard work. It’s silly, don’t you think? Taking the twists, listening to a relative wither away, and throwing everything in the landfill.
Or shouldn’t we be scandalized by such trifles? She likes messing with jars – let her be glad she’s helping. It makes her feel important and necessary, and to wash the cans and take it is not difficult.
