“I only acknowledge my grandson”: my mother-in-law didn’t want to take my daughter from my first marriage and buy her anything

At this point, I’m 36pc. I got married for the second time five years ago to William. Before that, I was married to a man I met when I was a student. We had a beautiful love story, but years passed and we fought, had scandals and the understanding ended.

I don’t regret anything as he became the father of my dear little girl. I gave birth to her in 2014, almost immediately after that came the divorce. When I met William, he was not embarrassed by my having a child. He wasn’t frightened and was even happy about it. He was very warm to his little girl. You could even think that she was his own. Understandably, I could not miss such a chance and miss this guy. So in 2017 we got married to him.

Given the fact that we were both of legal age, college life behind us, and life experience under our belt, we each had some savings. We put them together and scraped together some money for an apartment. I didn’t want to live with my parents, I liked making my own decisions, so we moved in together right away.

A year after we married, our mutual son was born. But the relationship with my mother-in-law was difficult. Although at first I had nothing to complain about. We had repairs planned which we wanted to do as soon as possible. We constantly went shopping for building materials. Since my relatives live a long way away, except for my husband’s mother, no one else could help us.

This conflict gradually escalated. At first my mother-in-law was okay with my daughter. Of course, she didn’t want her grandson in her life. I realized that it wasn’t the fact that my grandson was her junior, but that he was her son’s. I couldn’t change the past.

I couldn’t change the past. I knew there was nothing I could do about it. My shirt is closer to my body, that’s out of the question. But I hadn’t done anything wrong. What happened is what happened. So there’s nothing to accuse me of. It just so happens that I had a daughter by the time I met my husband. I wasn’t hiding anything from anyone. And they both accepted that fact, my husband and his mother.

At first I was just observing it from the sidelines until my daughter started complaining to me openly.

And my grandmother wouldn’t give me candy. Grandma wouldn’t let me play with toys from the box.

I tried to talk to my mother-in-law, but nothing worked. She got nervous and started reprimanding me:

You know perfectly well that when you bring me children, one of them is my own, and the other – a stranger. The girl has her grandparents. Let them look after her.

That same night I took both my children to my mother. And from then on, I made a decision that I would not take them to my mother-in-law’s house until she changed her mind. As strange as it was, my husband took my side. We ignored his mother for three months until my mother-in-law admitted that if she wouldn’t accept my daughter, she wouldn’t see her grandson either. By the way, my daughter loves my husband’s mother.

It turns out that in some cases, without drastic measures can not do. What else could it be? What would you do? I would like to hear your opinion.
