Melissa raised her two daughters alone. Their father died when they were young, the woman never married again. All worried that her new husband did not hurt her children. And if she had to choose between marriage and children, the woman preferred children.
Rebecca was the eldest, and Sarah was the youngest. It so happened that Rebecca married early and had a daughter named Inga. Then she went to live in her husband’s apartment. But that marriage did not last long. A couple of years later, with a child in her arms, Rebecca returned to Melissa’s house. Especially since she herself had told her not to fool around and be better off with her own people.
Her younger sister Sarah was angry with Rebecca. She thought that she purposely went back to her mother, in order to lure her out of her apartment. But she was wrong, Rebecca’s health was poor, she was diagnosed with cancer. Inga was in her grandmother’s care.
Sarah was already married at the time, too, and had two children. One of Melissa’s close relatives gave her apartment. She did not think much, immediately signed it over to Sara with the assurance that she would have no claim to her mother’s apartment, if anything.
Rebecca died when Inga was seventeen years old. Then her grandmother fell ill, too. Sarah came over one day and asked Melissa who would get her apartment when she died.
-What do you mean who? Inga will get it. She’s alone, her mother isn’t here, and her father has nothing to do with her. She can’t live on the street.
-But how so? She’s only your granddaughter, and I’m your daughter. And I have two children. Inga will grow up and buy her own place. Give me the apartment. – Sarah yelled at the top of her lungs.
-No, that won’t do. You and I had an agreement earlier.
-Then I’ll never set foot here again.
Sara didn’t care how a teenage girl had time to go to her homework or look after her sick grandmother. Since she did not get the apartment, she stopped all communication with her relatives.
